WHEELING, April 14, 2019 – Explore: The New Manufacturing celebrated the West Virginia What’s So Cool About Manufacturing? Video Contest during a virtual awards ceremony Tuesday night with six local middle schools and six manufacturing companies.
“Today’s middle school students will be tomorrow’s workforce in manufacturing in West Virginia, said Monica Cross, Program Director of the WVMAEF. “This generation has a real opportunity to have lifelong careers in modern manufacturing environments that will use skills in technology, problem-solving, innovation and communication.”
The student teams competed for three awards, Outstanding Creativity, Best Manufacturing Message, and the Viewer's Choice. All the videos can still be viewed by visiting https://www.exploremfgwv.com/studentvideocontest
Participating schools are Bridge Street Middle School, Brooke Middle School, Moundsville Middle School, Oak Glen Middle School, Sherrard Middle School, and St. Joseph The Worker School. Local manufacturers include the Mull Group, Inc., Eagle Manufacturing Company, Tecnocap LLC, The Fiesta Tableware Company, the Ziegenfelder Company, and Pietro Fiorentini USA.
Educational partners, West Virginia Northern Community College and Bethany College were instrumental in providing video training to the teachers. Video cameras were provided by the Explore: The Manufacturing, a nonprofit organization that links education and industry through interactive programs. The program is funded by the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation and Chevron, as well as company and individual contributions.
